What is a Casino?

A casino is a place where people gamble on games of chance and, sometimes, skill. Organized crime figures provided much of the initial money that helped create the first Nevada casinos. But as the industry grew, legitimate businessmen with deep pockets such as Donald Trump and the Hilton hotel company realized that they could make much more money from casinos without the mob’s involvement. Federal crackdowns and the fear of losing a gambling license at even the slightest hint of mob involvement keep the Mafia away from the modern casinos.
