What is a Slot?

A slot is a narrow opening, especially one for receiving something, such as a coin or a letter. It can also refer to a position in an organization or a job.

When a player puts money into a slot machine, the computer randomly generates a sequence of numbers that correspond to the locations of the symbols on the reels. Once the digital reels stop spinning, the symbols that land in a pay line determine whether or not the player has won. When you assign a reservation to a project, folder, or organization, the resources in that project or folder can only use the number of slots assigned to them. If you don’t assign a reservation to a resource, it inherits its assignments from its parents in the resources hierarchy.
